I’m Nandan. I’m a filmmaker, artist and creative from Quincy, Massachusetts.
From a young age, I’ve had a knack for creativity and was constantly finding new ways to express myself. In elementary school, I gained an affinity for oil painting. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and other painters of the Impressionist movement, I took lessons at the Sippy Cup Place in Quincy and made more than 20 paintings over the next 5 years, taking on canvases big and small - some even bigger than myself. I’ve also tried my hand at clay, creating a sculpture depicting my recovery from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery as my high school senior thesis project.
Painting served as a valuable stepping stone; towards the end of middle school, I used iMovie to create a video as part of an assignment in my history class. What I discovered was a love for filmmaking. In high school, I took classes in film and television production, learning the basics of what goes into creating the movies and shows we see on the big screens. I also got to intern at Quincy Access Television, which allowed me to put what I learnt into practice. These experiences solidified that filmmaking was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Along the way, I also found ways to give back to the community that raised me - whether it was refereeing youth soccer games, presenting science experiments at community festivals, working on film projects within the city or a plethora of other things.
My love for filmmaking, art and civic engagement all came together and brought me across the pond to Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where I graduated from in December 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts Production and minor in Sports Communication. Here, I spent the last three and a half years learning from industry professionals and getting hands-on experience in every aspect of film production, broadcast production and sports communications - both on and off camera. Outside the classroom, I’ve found community through student films and television shows, and fostered community by co-founding Sathi, a South Asian cultural organization, to bring together Emerson students from across the South Asian diaspora, celebrate our shared cultures and create a space to share our experiences as South Asians.
I also joined our Student Government Association, rising through the ranks to become Executive Treasurer and finally Executive President, serving as the leading voice of our over 4,000 undergraduate student body. In these roles, I worked with my peers and college administrators to enact policies and initiatives that improved the student experience, advocated for student needs - such as creation and expansion of third spaces - and improved campus culture as a whole. I’ve also found joy in performance, starting an award-nominated soccer radio show, “Getting a Bit Messi!” and co-hosting the ERA Awards, an award show honoring student organizations and leadership.
I hope to use the experience that I’ve gained thus far to climb my way up the ladders of the film industry and become a director in film and/or television. I’m also interested in sports media, and exploring the intersectionality of sports, media and identity.
Having come to the United States with my parents from India when I was just 8 months old, I’ve always been cognizant of the unique journey and challenges that first generation immigrants face, and it has influenced the type of creative and person that I am today. I hope to use film, art, theater and the creative fields, in tandem with emerging technologies, to find innovative ways to create meaningful change for my communities, channel my experiences as a first-generation Indian American to tell stories relevant to the South Asian diaspora, and help give a voice to those who don’t have one.
