The bell rings. Children run around. Teachers go home. Homework now cries in pain as it has temporarily become a thing of the past. June 26th marked the end of the 2014-15 school year. I would like to thank Point Webster for “pointing” me in the right direction. This school is simply amazing. The teachers and the staff are fantastic and always ready to help the students. The principal and vice-principal are very friendly, and always try to make the school year more fun.

In each class, we did many interesting things. ELA class taught us about grammar and poetry. Social Studies opened up to us new pages of history. Reading pushed our heads into different genres of books. Math was the world of multiplication, division and fractions and decimals. Science, my favorite subject, brought in interesting discussions on the world of energy, plant and animal life.

The school has many after-school activities. I participated in “Point Painters” and “Point Newspaper Club”. In Point Painters, we learnt about different types of art, and did things like making the promps for the Drama Clubs production of “High School Musical 2”. My favorite part was when we made wood sculptures of our choice using the wood pieces in the boxes, wood glue and paint. I was also excited about making the cover design for the last “Point Paper” of the year. I would like to thank the Art Teacher, Ms. Vale, who gave me an opportunity to present my art collection for the school art show. Showing my art to more than 150 people was an amazing experience. Really appreciate it Ms. Vale!

I also participated in two sports training after-school activities at Point. In the first trimester of the year, I participated in Soccer. I learnt dribbling and shooting skills and even wrote an article for the school magazine. I even scored goals during the games. Post-FIFA 2014, my interest in game had significantly grown to become my favorite sport. While some say it is “kicking a ball and pretending to be hurt”, there is much more to the game than that. That I could actually get trained and play at school was a great start to the first trimester. Soccer was followed by Basketball in the Spring. I was not much familiar with this game, but the training and games helped me understand why an average Bostonian is so crazy about the Celtics!

I was part of the school band, playing the Clarinet. In band, we always wonder how famous musicians come up with complex music. The most challenging part is that every instrument has different notes and sequence in the play. So you have to be very precise with timing and notes. It was fun to learn new notes and play for the staff and parents alongside other band members playing different instruments. Thank you Ms. Schmidt and the band team.

One of the most exciting parts of the school year was during the Lego Robotics Competition between the schools in the Quincy district. It used to be for just the 6th, 7th and 8th graders. But this year, they announced that the 5th graders could be on the 5th grade Lego Robotics team! I was a member of the Point team. It was an amazing experience, being able to build and program Lego robots. Even though my school’s team didn’t win, it was still a great experience. Even after the competition was over, the Robotics teacher, Ms. Acton, was generous enough to let us come down to the Robotics room and learn more.

Finally, I would like to thank my school friends and the teachers for giving me a great start to the middle school while making it a memorable year. This will be my last year at Point as I will be going to Central Middle School. A special thanks to my computer genius friend Ekow for teaching me a lot about computers and also giving me tips about how to raise my SEO level in this website. Also, thanks to my buddies Andrew, Samarth, Jarod, Eric and Billy. Once again, thank you Point Webster!!!!!
