Veggie skewers

A few weeks ago, I tried my hand at a new recipe: Skewers. This was the first time I had attempted to make anything like this. Although it did not turn out as planned, I felt it was a good first attempt. Instead of using the stove, I used the grille. The ingredients are as follows:

  • 1 tomato (sliced)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced)
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 5-10 spinach leaves
  • seasoning to taste (optional)
  • 5 skewers

Procedure:

  1. Grill the bread slice until golden brown.
  2. Cut the grilled bread slice into square pieces.
  3. Place the tomatoes, bell peppers and spinach in a bowl, add the seasoning of your choice, and mix it together well.
  4. Place the vegetables in the grille for about 2 minutes they they have the grill mark.
  5. Take one of each in vegetable and put them on the skewer in a pattern. See the pattern I used in the picture.
  6. Sprinkle the seasoning on top of the skewers. I used parmesan, pepper and basil. You can try various combinations of your choice.
  7. Repeat step 5 & 6 until all the skewers are full and enjoy your skewers as soon as you can.

During this try, I also learnt some valuable cooking lessons. For example, tomatoes must be cut thick and handled with care while grilling. Else it will be very soggy and mushy. For larger quantities, the grille I used will take you a long time and you might get impatient because you want to eat these skewers right when it is done.
