My first week at high school

0

The past week has been a huge transition for me. It was my first full week of high school. The last transition I have made before going out into the world as an adult.

As the week has passed by, I have realized that high school is extremely different from middle school. At Central, we had 6 different schedules – Day A, B, C, D, E, and F, rotating continuously in a cycle. In high school, it is 5 schedule. Besides, my school dwarfs the Central Middle School in size. Instead of one floor for each grade level, the school has 4 wings: The A Wing (Math, Science, Technology), the B Wing and C Wings (Foreign Language and Electives), and the D Wing (English and Social Studies.) Each wing is separated across the huge building. This makes for a nice, long walk to each class, at least a mile each day and we are just given 4 minutes between classes.

Another change from middle school to high school is doubles. This is when you have a class for two class periods, not one, which means you miss two things a day (for example, you may miss Social Studies and Science one day, and Elective and Math another day). This addition to the schedule is good, because it allows you to get more work done in a class. Each class has a double once every cycle, and is skipped once every cycle, maintaining a balance in classes.

While it has been a huge change for me, I feel confident that I will get adjusted to it in the coming weeks. The teachers have been extremely nice and helpful, and so far I have enjoyed it. I will continue writing more as I adapt to this new world.
