Quincy High Vs North Quincy High – 2018 Season

Rivalries are some of the best parts of sports, for both fans and players alike. Great friends off the pitch become bitter rivals on the pitch. They can bring a team together, or tear them apart. Lift them up, or crash them down. Make them heroes or zeros.

I have gotten the privilege of experiencing this rivalry as a fan and player through my high school soccer team. Quincy has 2 high schools – Quincy High and North Quincy High who have a huge rivalry in various categories. On Saturday, our soccer team played against the North at their home field. It was a special moment, as it was the first big game of the season. We had a 15-game winning streak against them, and we were intent on making it 16. It also pitted me against some of my very close friends.

The game started off in their favor, and we had some trouble early on. They got a penalty and scored, making it 1-0 after 5 minutes. But we kept our heads up and turned our game to the next level. Our passing became more fluent, held the ball better and they couldn’t get many chances. We soon scored, halfway through the first half, with an amazing long range shot from one of our seniors. There was no turning back from there on. We scored again and held on for a 2-1 win, our 16th straight against North Quincy, and the first of the season. We were all extremely proud of the result and it was a memorable win away from home. I look forward to the rest of the season.
